This year’s conference theme, Regional Distinctions: Nuances of Newport, Boston, and Philadelphia Furniture, was selected in response to interest in construction and ornamentation techniques specific to the named furniture centers. Allan Breed, known for his work on Townsend and Goddard furniture, will discuss the Newport style, emphasizing both carving and joinery. Phil Lowe, founder of the Furniture Institute of Massachusetts, will focus on the work of John and Thomas Seymour. Tom Stauffer and Alan Anderson will present traits common to furniture originating in the Philadelphia area. Attendees are encouraged to bring actual work, or slides, photographs, or digital images for a presentation June 25.
