Robertson Kirtland Mygatt was a member of the late 19th century American tonalist movement. This exhibition of eighty-six oils and sixteen etchings is the largest and most extensive show of his work to date. With the exception of one work, Mygatt’s paintings are small, mostly horizontal landscapes painted on wood panels taken from cigar boxes. Mygatt used few colors and subtle effects of light to capture the transitional periods of dusk and dawn and the changes between spring and summer.
