The work of metal craftsman John Long of Sporting Hill and woodworker John Palmer Boyer of Brickerville, Lancaster County, exemplifies the skill and design of nineteenth-century Pennsylvania German craftsmen. The recent discovery of the identity of woodworker Boyer along with documented pieces that have descended in the Boyer family contribute to the interest of this exhibit, the first ever devoted to these two craftsmen. Items loaned from Winterthur, the Hershey Museum, and private collectors include an iron and brass Betty lamp dating to 1848 by Long and a paint-decorated pine and poplar seed chest, ca. 1880, attributed to Boyer. An illustrated twelve-page booklet ($16.95) is available from the museum.
