Mabel Alvarez was considered a painter and lithographer. She was born in Oahu, Hawaii on November 28, 1891. Alvarez moved with her family to California in 1906. Settling in Los Angeles, she studied with James E. McBurney, William Cahill, Stanton MacDonal Wright and Morgan Russell. An advocate of modern art, her work includes figures, still lifes and portraits. She died in Los Angeles on March 13, 1985.
