Carl Wuermer

Carl Wuermer emigrated from Germany to Chicago in 1915 and enrolled in the A4rt Institute of Chicago (1920-24). He was a successful realist landscape painter and exhibited widely, receiving many awards. His technique was similar to French Pointillism. Wuermer painted large landscapes by building up the canvas with thousands of small dots and used dark outlining to define trees and other subjects. His compositions lead the viewer's eye back in deep perspective throughout the panoramic scene. Wuermer was awarded the J. Francis Murphy Memorial Prize from the National Academy of Design in 1928. It is recorded in several different journals that he died either in 1981 or 1983.
