Karl Everton Moon
Born Ohio, 1879

Karl Moon was a photographer, painter, and illustrator. After his high school graduation in Ohio, Moon served in the National Guard. It was there that Moon decided on photography as a vocation. He relocated to Albuquerque, where he opened a photography studio. While in the Southwest, Moon studied under Thomas Moran, Frank Sauerwein, and Louis Akin. He became fascinated with the Pueblo Indians, capturing them on film and on canvas. Moon met artist Grace Purdie in New Mexico, and they were married in 1911. The couple settled in California in 1914.

Throughout his life, Moon exhibited his work around the nation including: The National Museum in Washington D.C.; The White House; New York City; and the American Museum of Natural History.
