Frederick Dickinson Williams

Frederick Dickinson Williams was a portraitist, landscape painter, and art teacher whose work left a lasting impression of the New England landscape. Born in Boston, Williams studied at Harvard University and opened his studio in the area, remaining an influential member of the Boston art world. He gained additional inspiration from the Parisian art scene, where he and his wife held a studio for a portion of the 1870's and 80's, but New England's rivers, farms, cottages, and beaches continued to provide his favorite subjects. He exhibited extensively at the Boston Art Club, the Boston Atheneum, the National Academy of Design, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Paris Salon. His work is now featured in such prestigious institutions as the Museum of Fine Art, Boston.
