A very important reverse serpentine four drawer chest, the top with serpentine side and canted corners (a very rare feature) over four graduated drawers on ball and claw feet. All original including the brasses. Provenance: Originally owned by Captain Joseph Peabody, Revolutionary War hero and one of the wealthiest East India shipping merchants in Salem, MA. Francis Peabody (1801-1823) to the Rev. Endicott Peabody (1857-1945), founder of the Groton School in Groton, MA, to his grandson.
