A Good Composite German Cap-A-Pie Armour, Augsburg, Circa 1560 #579

Comprising close helmet with one-piece skull, rising to a medial comb, the visor with single vision-slit, the prow-shaped upper bevor, pierced with numerous ventilation holes and the bevor attached to the skull by common pivots and secured at either side by spring-catches. The turned lower edges of the skull and bevor are hollowed to attach to the associated gorget, which comprises three plates at the front and three at the rear and three lames on either side forming integral spaulders. The breastplate, struck with the Augsburg Beschau, or quality control mark, with prominent forward projection over the belly, skirt of three lames with long pendant tassets each formed of eight lames. One-piece backplate, the arm-defences attached with a pin through the last lame of the spaulders comprise articulated vambraces with winged tubular couters, with fingered gauntlets with pointed hinged cuffs of faceted form. Full-length greaves with integral sabatons of seven lames and squared toe-caps with symmetrical roped decoration at the front.
