| This fine, early and rare Antonio Jacobsen painting depicts the October 26, 1875, match race between DAUNTLESS, Ex-Commodore Bennett, and MOHAWK, Vice-Commodore Garner, twenty miles to windward from Sandy Hook lightship and return, $1000, a side. In a very strong southeaster and poor visibility, the keel DAUNTLESS, out-sailed the centerboarder MOHAWK which failed to find the finish in the hazy conditions. The following day, MOHAWK, won a similar race against the schooner RESOLUTE.
