An exceptional portrait miniature of a lady by Petit. The lady, facing left, is wearing a white dress with puff-sleeves and a muslin fichu, three gold necklaces and large pearl earrings. Her curly dark hair is adorned with a pearl-studded gold comb. The background is clouds and sky. The oval miniature is set with a gold mount within a circular gilt-metal locket frame with a radiating hair base.

Louise Marie Petit: This artist is listed in Miniature in Europe by Leo R. Schindlof, p. 630 as Louis Marie Petit, born in Fountainebleu 22 February 1784, died after 1839. He was a pupil of David, Bathieu and Moitte, and exhibited at the Salon from 1814 to 1839 miniature portraits in watercolor and pictures of interiors. He also took part in the exhibition of the Luxembourg with genre pictures and landscapes. The Museum of Lisieux has by him an interior of a church painted by him in 1826.
