A Fine Chinese Export Tureen, Cover And Stand.

The rectangular tureen, cover and stand with canted corners is decorated in unusual famille rose enamels. The tureen is of a shape -- low and long -- that is typical of the 1760-70 period. The tureen is decorated in a palette that the Chinese called soft colors with a turquoise predominate.

The cover and stand are decorated with a design of a zig-zag fence by stylized rocks with flowering plants growing forth with pink, gilt, white and iron-red flowers. The finial of the tureen is in the form of a pomegranate with one small chip to the top leaf (restored), and the handles are in the shape of hare's head. The sides of the tureen are vigorously decorated with large and small famille rose flowers in thick enamels. The interior of the tureen base and cover are also unusually decorated with two flower-heads, one in famille rose and the other in iron-red.

Surrounding the base of the tureen, the rim of the cover and the inner well of the stand is a gilt and iron-red spearhead band.
