A Rare Pair Of Porcelain Dessert Dishes, Decorated by Donovan of Dublin.

This pair of dessert dishes is finely painted with a botanical scenes on each. One is painted with a yellow pear on a leafy vine with a butterfly fluttering nearby. The other is painted with a grouping of grapes on a vines with a spider and two cherries nearby. Both have a brown-edged petal shaped rim.

Marks: Signed in underglaze ochre: Donovan Dublin.

James Donovan, George's Quay, Dublin, Ireland circa 1770-1829.

James Donovan (& Son) decorated English porcelain and pottery. The last entry in local directories is for the year 1829. They were a leading Irish retailer, nicknamed The Emperor of China

Circa 1805.
