Inscribed/ to the memory/ of Mrs Susanna Fisher/ who died Jan 2. 1799/ Aged 31 years./ Lo where this silent/ marble weeps a friend/ a wife a mother/ sleeps. WROUGHT BY NANCY FISHER AT CANTON AGED 13 Y. 1809 This beautifully embroidered and painted memorial was stitched by Nancy Fisher (1792–1820) to commemorate her mother Susanna. Nancy was the third of five children of Elijah Fisher (1765–1813) and Susanna Hixon (1768–1799). Silk & watercolor on silk; 18 x 15 inches framed.
