A classical pattern of palmette arabesques with cloudbands and fantastic animals fills the field, while a cartouche border frames the entire composition. But unlike such classical forerunners, which had pungent and riotous colors, this example has a lovely, subtle palette of light cocoas, cinnamon, and soft greens that makes it perfectly suited for modern decorative use.
