Very fine hepplewhite inlaid cherrywood swell front chest, with string inlaid top edge above four graduated figured cherry veneered drawers having string inlaid detail and beaded edge, raised on flaring french feet with scrolled, shaped apron having oval maple inlaid central panel. Original condition. Attributed to Spooner & Fitts, Athol, Massachusetts, circa 1795-1800. Very similar to Inventory #7262 sold by this firm several years ago. Please see page 109, Furniture of Historic Deerfield, for the more usual Sheraton example made by Spooner & Fitts. 40" wide, 21 1/4" deep, 36" high.
