Renaissance Revival folding arm chair, walnut with brass buttons, expertly carved animal head hand rests and intricately turned arms, legs, stiles and stretchers. The forerunner of the modern "director's chair" is a form that has antecedents in ancient Greece & Rome. A closely related but less interesting example is in The Musee des Arts Decoratif in Paris and was exhibited at the Grand Palais Paris "Industrial Design" exhibition in 1860.
