Rare and imported Federal Inlaid Mahogany Serpentine Front Sideboard attributed to George Rogers, having a herringbone inlaid top, each drawer and door having flame birch cross-banding and inlaid quadrants all on tapered legs with rectangular inlaid paterae simulating columns over bellflower inlays framed with satinwood stringing, above shield and pellet-drop inlays also hedged by line inlays continuing to beautifully inlaid cuffs. In an outstanding state of preservation retaining a fine mellow patina and being all original except for the brass knobs. Provenance: According to family tradition this sideboard was originally owned by Stuart James Park (1773-1859) of Groton, Massachusetts. An architect and builder, his works include the State Capitol building in Concord, N.H., circa 1812. A typed card inside the top right drawer, and signed by Lawrence Park, states that the sideboard was "probably" bought by Stuart Park in 1812.
