Attributed to the Elizabeth Marsh school in England, before she arrived in Philadelphia in 1723. The Marsh's and Russell's were both Quaker families in the same community. These band patterns are worked on several of the samplers stitched by Philadelphia girls between 1725-1740. See Betty Ring, Girlhood Embroidery, p. 328-336.
