An extraordinary and rare period Louis XIV commode with magnificent Kingwood veneer and dore bronze mounts. During an era of growing power and splendor in France, luxurious furniture pieces such as this commode were being created for the royal and noble classes. Kingwood, a rare type of rosewood, was imported from Central and South America and applied to only the finest creations of the ebeniste. A similar commode, with less elaborate bronze mounts, is pictured on page 84 in Antique Furniture by John Andrews. Circa 1710. 48-1/2" wide x 32-1/2" high x 26-3/4" deep. #28-4778.
