A stunning, monumental marble fountain by eminent 19th-century French sculptor A. Carrier-Belleuse. The large, scalloped bowl of the fountain is supported by the Three Graces, personifications of grace and beauty who attended to several of the Greek goddesses. Carrier-Belleuse, highly regarded by Napoleon III, was acclaimed for his sumptuous and seductive sculpture, which he produced in bronze, terra-cotta, marble and even porcelain. He served as the Director of the Works of Art at the renowned Sevres factory, where his assistants Rodin and Moreau would themselves go on to become noted sculptors. Carrier-Belleuse received a number of prestigious awards throughout his lifetime and is regarded among the greatest artists of the 19th century. This fountain, of such grand proportion, is a rare work by this extraordinary artisan.
