A Splendid Urn, Mason's Ironstone China; circa 1815. Painted with cartouches of sunflowers, (daisies on the reverse side), in an unusual technique of enamelling over gilt. The ground of rich cobalt blue scattered with fronds of gilt seaweed. The handles formed of gilded animal masks with ring. Height 17 inches (43 cm). A unique vase that demonstrates the imagination and talent of the Mason brothers in producing a spectacular exhibition piece.
