A French patinated bronze, ormolu and black marble gothic revival clock of two bacchanalian male lovers. The outstanding bronzes are from the famous workshop of Charpentier. Clocks with an openly homosexual theme are extremely rare. 8-day bell strike with a silk suspension pendulum. Backplate of the Pons movement signed CJ 904, and Charpentier & Jouay and fils. 24-1/2 x 17-1/2 inches. Circa 1840.
