Boar's Head Tureen Qing dynasty, Qianlong period (1736-1795), circa 1763 Chinese porcelain decorated in polychrome overglaze enamels A tureen moulded in the form of a severed boar's head, resting on its neck and facing upward, naturalistically modelled with its snout in the air with pierced nostrils and the mouth gaping open with tongue extended and the characteristic fangs protruding from the lower jaw, the ears rising and life-like eyes. Realistically enamelled to resemble the fur of the animal in pencilled shades of dark grey and black enamels, with the snout, lips, sides of the mouth, tongue and ears painted in shades of iron-red. The edge of the neck, the teeth, tusks and eyes are enamelled in white, and the pupils in grey and black.
