Sir Ernest Albert Waterlow RA PRWS (1850-1919); An Upland Pool; Signed; Oil on canvas, 61 x 47 inches (155 x 119.5 cm)

Born in London 21st May. He studied in Heidelberg, Lausanne and at The Royal Academy in London, where he won the Turner Gold Medal in 1873. Painted in oil and watercolours, exhibited at The Royal Academy, Suffolk Street, the Grosvenor Gallery, The Old Water Colour Gallery and elsewhere. His somewhat idyllic paintings are marked by harmony of colour and quiet refinement. Elected president of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1897. Became an RA in 1903. Knighted in 1902. His studio sale was held at Christies in 1920. Works by the artist hang in The Tate Gallery in London, Birmingham, Cape Town, Liverpool, Melbourne and Sydney.
