The exuberant usage of bird's-eye maple in this nicely proportioned case make this an exceptional regional example. The case has solid bird's-eye fret and chimneys as well as colonnettes on the hood and quarter columns on the waist. The dial door and pendulum door have veneers of bird's-eye maple. The dial has a wonderfully painted lunette with a detailed lakeside landscape with a stone cottage and figures on a path. The Boston mae dial is signed, numbered and date below the calendar window, "F. Wingate / Augusta / No. 53 1810". The case has a mahogany cross-banded base and rests on French feet.
