This attractive Chippendale tall clock case houses a brass dial movement by the rare Boston maker Thomas Clark. Clark was a London trained maker working in Boston during the mid 18th Century. In November of 1764, he advertisement in The Boston Gazette "Takes this Method to inform all Gentlemen and Ladies in Town and country, that he has to sell at his Shop, the South Side of the Court-House; A Fine Assortment of the neatest made Clocks and watches, of all Prices; he will also Warrant the same, as they are of his own make, and will be sold cheaper than any ever imported into the Country..." The brass composite dial has a painted moon phase in the lunette and is signed with the makers name in an arch “Thos. Clark. Boston, New England”. Gilt cast spandrels with Rococo patterns frame the dial at each corner. The clock movement and case are in excellent condition.
