Tilly Kettle first worked in the Midlands and London before making a long journey to India. He remained there from 1769 to 1776 and painted the portraits of the Indian high society and royalty. On his return to England, he found his painting style was not as well received in his native country. Kettle died at Aleppo while returning to India.
