Late 19th century tambourine comprised of a circular red painted pine frame with cymbals, showing a tautly stretched leather playing surface with the head of a smiling black man, the border inscribed 'The Raeford's Singing and Dancing Minstel (sic) Quartette,' all in polychrome paint in a remarkable state of preservation, ex GW Samaha Collection, Milan, Ohio. 11" in circumference x 1 1/2" deep.
