This shelf clock is a successful American form referred to as a “Massachusetts shelf clock” which was popularized in the late 18th Century. The clock was produced during the partnership of the three Munroe brothers, Daniel, Nathaniel and William in Concord, Massachusetts. The raised crest has a delicate fret and is mounted with three wonderful cast brass urn form finials. The kidney shaped dial has wonderful early "beetle and poker" hands and is signed within a gilt scrolled garland "D. MUNROE & Co." The base of the clock has a subtle line inlay on a richly grained mahogany panel. The clock rests on distinctive cuffed ogee bracket feet. Height including center finial.
