A fine Chippendale mahogany serpentine front chest of drawers, Boston, circa 1775. This chest, which features richly grained mahogany throughout, has a shaped and molded over hanging top with rounded corners above a conforming serpentine case. The four graduated drawers, which have bead moldings drawer dividers and frames, are mounted with period Chippendale brasses. The shaped and molded skirt joins carved returns and four short cabriole legs on boldly carved ball and claw feet. The base molding is joined to the case with a single broad dovetail, a construction technique commonly associated with Boston Eighteenth Century cabinetwork.
