| Lampadario. Genoa, circa 1730-1740. Rock crystal, cut glass, gilded wood and gilded metal. Provenance: made for the Doria family, Genoa. This fine chandelier has a circular crown with a gilded wood leaf-tip border fitted with pendant sprays continuing to the reeded baluster-shaped central standard fitted with two tiers of elaborate scrolled candle branches supporting pricket candle nozzles and rock-crystal beaded chains suspending pendants variously hung with stars, rosettes and pendant drops, continuing to the second tier with scrolled candle branches and the outer candle nozzles with lappet bobeches suspending pendant drops, the lower tier decorated with fleur-de-lys, faceted pendant drops, rosettes, and pressed glass clusters of grapes and terminating in a faceted finial. The fleur-de-lys motifs on this chandelier relate to the armorial bearing of the powerful Doria family, who counted many Doges of Genoa.
