This is an exceptionally rare walnut Chippendale clock we are offering. Less than five have been offered publicly with the original cartouche. We acquired this clock from a private party where it has been for at least three generations.

The carving on this clock is well balanced, nothing is superflous, a trait of the highly sought after Garvan Carver. It has a cartouche which stands on a plinth flanked by two scrolls with rosettes and urn and flame finials. The applied scrollboard carving is centered by a pierced shell which emanates vine carving. The cartouche, scroll top, rosettes and finials are original. There has been minor repair to the cartouche plinth and the curl on top and a minor part of the vine carving. It has also been telescoped 2.5 inches.

The waist door has a wonderful scalloped arch with grained walnut and is flanked by fluted quarter columns extending to a base. The base has a raised scalloped panel with book plate veneer and fluted quarter columns. The clock has restored ogee feet. This clock has been authenticated by Alan Miller as the earliest known Garvan Carver clock.
