The artist, Carl Lawless was from Mystic Conneticut. He lived between 1894 and 1934. While studying at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts he won the Cresson Fellowship and traveled to Europe to further his education. He learned under mentors like Daniel Garber and is well known for his landscape paintings.
