A Near Pair of Classical Miniature Bureaus.

Probably Philadelphia, circa 1830.

Mahogany (secondary woods: poplar and pine)

This delightful near pair of miniature bureaus represents fully developed designs of the Classical period. The rectilinear case is ornamented with fully engaged columns with carved capitals and turned bases, beautifully carved front feet, and well turned rear feet. The drawer fronts are veneered with rich crotch mahogany and a lighter wood inlay around the faux key escutcheons. A full family provenance is recorded in one of the drawers beginning with Martha Ridgeway Bannan in 1837 through Martha Ridgeway Bannan Harris Dean in 1924.
