Fine Connecticut comb-back Windsor armchair with folky, exaggerated spiral volute ears, oversized knuckle hand-holds carved from the solid of the arm rail, oval seat with nicely peaked pommel on delicate baluster turned legs. Important comb-back Windsor armchairs are rarely found retaining their old paint. This chair has a very interesting 19th century paint decorated surface of subtle red and black graining with gilt striped designs over earlier coats of paint.
