A portrait depicting Mr. Sheldon Battey, his wife Eliza and their son Thomas at about the age of six. Mr. Sheldon Battey (1793-1842), young Thomas Sheldon Battey (born August 21, 1824), Mrs. Eliza Battey (1783-1864) The Batteys are seated in Classical settee with rolled arms and turned crest, beneath a gilt gesso picture frame and a crimson drapery. Susanna Paine, an extraordinary woman and itinerant portrait painter, was born in Rehoboth Massachusetts, June 9, 1792. Her work is prolific as she moved between, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island throughout her lifetime and career.
