The carving on this particular chest is arguably the finest of the known surviving Wethersfield Sunflower Chests. The structural condition is singularly rare in that it retains its original top and full height stile post feet. Current scholarship suggests that this chest is a product of joiner Peter Blin, of Wethersfield, Connecticut.
Provenance: Purchased in the 1880s by Mrs. Edward M. Gallaudet from the Goodrich family of Indian Neck, Branford, Connecticut, who had owned the chest for a number of generations.
