Leading dealers from the United States and Europe will converge on the Park Avenue Armory, in New York City, this October for what promises to be one of the most important shows of the year. Since 1988, The International Fine Art & Antique Dealers Show -- or more simply known as "The International" -- has been show promoters Anna and Brian Haughton's flagship event. Sixty-five exhibitors will be offering a diverse selection of the best-quality examples of fine and decorative art.

Among the exhibitors returning to this year's show are Peter Finer, London dealers specializing in antique arms and armour; Bernard Goldberg Fine Arts, a noted New York gallery specializing in American Art of 1900 to 1950; Hirschl & Adler Galleries New York, arguably one of the most important dealers in American paintings, they also deal in American sculpture, prints, and decorative arts; Blitz Chinese Ceramics & Works of Art, Amsterdam dealers whose focus is early Chinese pieces of the Han through Yuan dynasties; and Ursus Books and Prints, New York dealers who specialize in a wide-range of fine and rare books, with an emphasis on illustrated examples. Although many are veterans of the show, new exhibitors include: Foster-Gwin (San Francisco, CA) with 16th, 17th and 18th century Continental furniture, tapestries and works of art; Stephen Ongpin Fine Art (London); Yvonne Tan Bunzl (London); and Phoenix Ancient Art (New York) with Islamic antiquities.

All of the offerings on display are strictly vetted for authenticity and condition by committees made up of curators and other distinguished specialists.

Although now common practice at many important shows, this concept was pioneered by the Haughtons. Their first event, The International Ceramics Fair & Seminar, was launched in 1982, in London, as an international forum for academics and collectors to meet annually, exchange knowledge, and buy and sell only the finest and rarest strictly-vetted pottery, porcelain and glass. Brian Haughton, who will also be exhibiting at The International, is a respected ceramics dealer in his own right.
